Youth and Family Worker

We are currently seeking a capable and committed Youth and Family Worker to join our team and provide outreach and on site supports for youth and their families:  

Youth and Family Worker

Reports to: Executive Director


  • Work with youth aged 13-19 and their families and their families to assess challenges, set goals and make progress on those goals.
  • Facilitate a constructive change and capacity building process for youth and their families.
  • Provide young people with an increased sense of community by familiarizing them with services and activities within the Centre and elsewhere in the community. 
  • To be a positive, strong role model.
  • To contribute to the overall functionality of the Quadra Village Community Centre and its programs/community building.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:    

  • Work with youth and their families to assess and plan for needs, identify required resources, support linkages and do follow-up.
  • Facilitate education and support groups with parents/caregivers/youth.
  • Facilitate parent/teen informal mediation (family community meetings).
  • Liaise with caregiver, parents, MCFD staff and any other relevant contact.
  • Assist youth and their families with effective system navigation.
  • Assess youth safety and wellness.
  • Attend community and case related meetings.
  • Facilitate parent support and mentoring.
  • Facilitate peer mentoring and support for youth. 
  • Participate in/facilitate planning meetings. 
  • Make referrals to community resources and assist with system navigation as appropriate.
  • Facilitate goal setting and steps towards attainment.
  • Facilitate constructive, client centred helping conversations.
  • To respond to general inquiries, by phone and in person regarding Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC), and to share in the physical work of maintaining a neighbourhood community centre and to assist in the centre as needed. 
  • To be familiar with and implement QVCC's (Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee’s) policies, procedures and practices. 
  • To make regular written and verbal reports as required by the Executive Director.
  • To ensure a safe environment; observe potential hazards; remedy and/or report.
  • To perform other related duties when required and approved by the Executive Director.


Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Child and Youth Care, Social Work or Counselling Psychology or any other degree acceptable to MCFD). A minimum of 2 years related work experience and extensive knowledge of youth and community resources. Some evening and/or weekend work is required. Criminal Record Check is required.

Employment Terms:

Permanent position (subject to probationary review), 34 hours per week. $22.50-$24.50 per hour depending on experience.  Eligible for comprehensive medical, dental, MSP and matching RRSP benefits after 3 months on the job (single coverage).
