Community Programs Assistant



We are looking for a dynamic Community Programs Assistant  to join our caring and committed community centre team this summer!

Tasks & Responsibilities in this Role

  • Work in conjunction with the Administrative Coordinator, Community Support Coodinator, Receptionist and other Community Centre staff to assist with the Community Support Program which includes information and referral services, free services, volunteer services and community events. 
    Work with the Administrative Coordinator and Recreation Coordinator to assist with recreation services.

  • Assist the Camp Coordinator and Child and Family Programs Coordinator to plan & implement QVVC summer camp programs . 

  • Engage in the promotion, registration, tracking of fees and bursaries, expenses &attendance for Camptastiq and (as needed) other Community Centre programs.    *The majority of children attending this Camptastiq receive bursaries to attend at low or no cost.

  • Our camp programs are  9 to 10 week, accessible, inclusive, fun, day camp program for inner city children 5 to 12 from a range of aboriginal & other cultures, many of whom are from low income families and considered at risk. We regularly have children in our camps that are contending with a range of challenges /disabilities.
  • Assist with the booking of outings for Camptastiq and the securing of needed resources as requested by the Camp Coordinator.
  • Assist in providing information and support to parents of children attending the camp.
  • Facilitate QVCC camp (including outdoor activities)  and other Community Centre programming on an as needed basis
  • Help foster a supportive,  inclusive and culturally sensitive environment that is welcoming to children, families, seniors and other individuals.

Class 4 Driver’s Licence (Preferred) 
First Aid and CPR

Education Level

Post secondary student in one of the following fields of study (Canada Summer Jobs position) :
Education, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Phys. Ed., Recreation Studies with coursework in areas such as child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery. Other academic backgrounds will be considered especially those connected to program administration and development.


  • Experience facilitating and administrating summer camp, school aged child care and recreation programs or equivalents in a role with significant responsibility. Demonstrated knowledge and experience re: child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery.
  • Proven aptitude for working with a diverse public.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

Term and Hours

Position starts mid June and ends September 1, 2017. The 37.5 hours a week are daytime, based on daycamp hours Monday through Friday each week.


$14.45 an hour
