Job Title:  Casual Youth Drop-In Worker

Reports to:  Youth Programs Coordinator

Role:   Implement Youth Centre Drop-ins in conjunction with the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Assist in the facilitation of all aspects of the Drop-In Program
  • Plan and implement structured activities during drop in hours
  • Approach Drop-in work utilizing youth engagement, youth program quality initiative and other best practice strategies
  • Assist youth with life issues and provide support referrals as necessary. 
  • Identify and support young persons who are having serious social problems and work with them on useful skills through mentoring, teachable moments and activities
  • Transport youth as appropriate
  • Ensure maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding Youth Drop-in.
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the Quadra Village Community Centre.
  • To respond to general inquiries regarding Quadra Village Community Centre, and to share in the work of maintaining a responsive and inclusive community centre. 
  • Be familiar with and implement Quadra Village Community Centre (Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee’s) policies, procedures and practices.  As well as the Youth Programs Handbook
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Youth Programs Coordinator or Executive Director.
  • Be willing to volunteer as needed for special events and other youth-driven initiatives
  • Engage as needed in the Youth Program Quality Initiative and attend learning community meetings and trainings as directed by the Youth Programs Coordinator
  • Encourage, facilitate and supervise the meaningful participation of youth at the Youth Drop-in, special events and community events
  • Ensure that the program environment is interactive, respectful, fair and welcoming.
  • Ensure the Youth Centre and other program spaces are suitable, clean and safe for the operation of youth programs.
  • Plan, promote, publicize and evaluate the Launch Pad, special events, youth drop-in and other youth programs.
  • Foster a connection to key family members, youth supports and other assets that can help with a youth’s life success.


  • Post-secondary diploma in Child and Youth Care and/or a relevant discipline or working towards a diploma with at least 1 year experience working with high risk youth and their families
  • Preference to candidates with two or more experience working with high risk youth in a community centre setting, with knowledge/awareness of First Nations popluations, diverse cultures and YPQI training
  • Criminal Record Check and First Aid Training are required.
  • Class 4 Driver’s License is an asset

Hours of Work:

This is an on-call position could be up to 9 hours per week.  It is the expectation that all of the hours required for this position will consist of late afternoons, evenings and weekends.  Thursdays 6-9pm, Fridays and Saturdays 5-8pm.


Our plan is to maintain this position on an ongoing basis.  Position and hours may change due to funding. 

Salary and Benefits:             

$16.00 per hour
